History
This are the facts of the Hotel “Rheingraf, formally known as “von der Leyensche Hof” The two main buildings, build around 1440 and 1594, does have a long history,
The noble family „ von Schilling“ or „Schilling von Lahnstein“ (Schilling from Lahnstein) owned two important farms with habitation in Kamp in the 16th century:
- The farm in Kamp, which Philipp zu Liebenstein 1431 exchanged from Johann Boos von Waldeck, which changed the name in 1437 due to the new owners of “earl from Nassau-Saarbruecken (Grafen von Nassau-Saarbrücken zu Lehen). His grandson Franz von Liebenstein also inherit the farm of „Walpoden von Ulmen“ located in Kamp. His daughter Otta brought the farm to the Schilling von Lahnstein by marring Conrad Schilling.
- Already in 1608 the farm was sold to the higher nobility “von der Leyen”. The House of Leyen (von der Leyen) is an ancient German family of high nobility, lineage from ‘Men de Guntreve’ (= the place Gondorf, today known as Kobern-Gondorf) on the Moselle, occurred first documented with Engelbert de Guntreve in 1158. Since that time this farm is known as the “von der Leyensche Hof” (= which means “the farm of ‘von der Leyen’-Family”). In the year of 1835 the “Von der Leyensche Hof” was sold to the town of Kamp for an unknown amount of money. Since that the buildings were used as a bakery, a youth hostel and as a school.
By the way: We still have guest who remember very well their school lessons in the former class-room which is now our restaurant.
In the Year 1982...
... the Family Dahlem bought the building and refurbished it to the Hotel “Rheingraf” as you see it today. The arms of the Dahlem family decorates the Hotel Rheingraf in Kamp-Bornhofen and you find it in a modified colour in the logo of the Hotel again.
On 01st June 2016 the now famous Hotel became the possession of the Hein family.
